The Office of the Sugar Cane and Sugar Industry Council (OCSB) of Thailand stated last Friday that Thailand expects to export 9 million tons of sugar in 2022/23, a year-on-year increase of 17%.
The director of the strategy and planning department of the committee, Samart Noiwan, stated that Thailand is expected to end crushing in March, with an expected sugar production of 11.5 million tons, an increase of 13.3% year-on-year, and crushing 106 million tons of sugarcane, an increase of 15% year-on-year.
He said that the annual consumption of sugar in Thailand is 2.5 million tons. Due to favorable international sugar prices, farmers have expanded their sugarcane cultivation and ample rainfall, resulting in this year′s sugarcane production recovering to a level of 100 million tons for the first time since 2019.
